Introduction
Dr. Sanjukta Bera is a devoted and uniquely talented Rabindra Sangeet singer presently residing in Mumbai but originally from Kolkata. She lends her distinctive understanding of ‘Kobiguru’s’ verses and her mellifluous voice to this genre.
Sanjukta’s tryst with music started early in life as her father spotted her talent. It goes without saying that music is an integral part of all Bengali households. So began Sanjukta’s training under professionals in Kolkata and various other places where her father was based.
For Sanjukta, music remained a personal expression of emotions as she found her vocational calling in Social Services. A Doctorate (Ph.D) in Anthropology, she has worked extensively with several N.G.Os like Childline(1098) and others.
Her yearning for excellence and passion for learning brought her under the tutelage of Shri. Prabuddha Raha, one of the most acknowledged exponents of Rabindra Sangeet in recent time where she continues her musical ‘Sadhona’.
She undertakes voice training under Acharya Sanjay Chakraborty, a world class Indian music vocalist, instrumentalist, composer and music therapist.
She also learns puratoni, adunik and other Bengali music under Shri. Alak Roy Choudhury, one of the most versatile singer/composer of our time.
Sanjukta aims to continue her musical sojourn through learning and singing and bring Rabindra Sangeet in its purest form for music lovers. She hopes that her dedication to this art form will be a small tribute to the legendary icon from Bengal.
Besides music, the world of theatre also entices Sanjukta. When given a chance she enjoys wearing the hat of an actor. A lady full of surprises, she has the perfect comic timing!
